Mat Zo is probably one of those producers, who prefer creating their own sounds rather than following a trend. The 24 year old prodigy, who dabbles in genres ranging from progressive trance to progressive and electro house to dubstep to trap to drum and bass to garage, is always up for a challenge when it comes to producing new music.
Born in London as Matan Zohar to an artist father and a mother who is a professional violinist, Mat’s inclination towards music was evident, after he was gifted a guitar by his father at the age of 8. The continuous pursual of his musical interests since the age of 11, saw him play the bass guitar and drums for a jazz and rock band respectively. It was then that his music taste took an inclination towards electronic music, after he listened to artists such as Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers.
Continuously producing for 3 years, he finally caught the attention of some of the biggest DJ’s around the world, signing on to Above & Beyond‘s Anjunabeats. Since then he has gone from strength to strength, collaborating with the likes of Arty, Porter Robinson and Kill The Noise, while remixing the likes of Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Super8 & Tab, Kyau & Albert amongst others, His debut album “Damage Control” garnered him critical acclaim from peers as well as critics.
His collaboration with Porter Robinson, Easy, is undeniably one of the biggest hits of his career, reaching no. 1 on Beatport and gaining support from a lot of DJ’s around the world. His collaborations with Arty, Mozart and Rebound, were widely supported by Armin van Buuren himself on his radio show, A State of Trance, with Rebound making it into the 2011 edition of A State of Trance. Earler this year in May, Mat collaborated with Dubstep producer Kill The Noise for a new project named Kill The Zo for collaborative productions and a tour.
Mat Zo has regularly played with Above & Beyond for their Trance Around The World shows, playing at TATW300 in Moscow, TATW400 in Lebanon and TATW450 in our own Bangalore. And now he’s set to play at arguably one of the biggest venues in the world, Madison Square Garden, when Above & Beyond celebrate the 1ooth episode of their iconic Group Therapy radio show, along side Above & Beyond, Andrew Bayer and Ilan Bluestone.
Mat Zo has never failed to profess his love for India and butter chicken. and has promised his fans in the country that he will tour atleast once a year. So inspired is Mat by India, that he even used India influenced sounds for his track ‘Caller ID‘ and “Superman Lost” from his album Damage Control.
